Hunger Project urges Neno to report GBV
Hunger Project Malawi says lack of knowledge is increasing cases of gender-based violence (GBV) in families.
Speaking in Neno district on Saturday during 16 Days of Activism commemoration, the organisation’s nutrition, HIV/Aids and gender officer Grace Chikowi urged communities to report any form of gender-based violence.
Chikowi said many girls do not have access to basic needs, which lead to school dropout.
She also called on the people to preserve the natural resources to prevent climate change.
“Much of the land is bare because we stopped taking care of natural resources. We need to take a leading role to reduce climate change,” said Chikowi.
Neno district commissioner Memory Kaleso thanked Hunger Project for the initiative to bring back the natural environment.
Through the project, Hunger Project will bring back environment in some parts of Neno.
This year’s celebration was under the theme Peace in Home, Peace to the Country: Make Education Safe for all Conserving the Environment and Natural Resources.
